Do I need a dental examination?
Everyone needs regular preventive exams. Even diligent people who brush regularly and clean with flossing should receive regular professional care for the health of their teeth and gums. Dental exams are just as important when wearing dentures, having dental implants, or taking medications that may have some effect on the mouth, such as dry mouth or hyperplastic gums.
The frequency of your visits depends on your dental needs. The purpose of the exam is to spot small problems early. For most people, an exam every six months is enough. Dr. Audette will guide you according to your personal dental hygiene, your prevention or treatment needs, tartar build-up on your teeth, etc.
No matter how much attention you pay to your teeth and gums, or the first signs of trouble, there are certain conditions that only Dr. Audette can see, including: the deterioration of fillings, crowns and other restorations; caries around existing fillings, caries of the root and that under the gum; the first signs of gum disease; periodontal pockets caused by gum disease; cracks in the teeth; and the wisdom teeth included.
